Wondering if Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is right for you? To help guide you in your decision, below are answers to the most commonly asked questions we receive about the treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SMP hurt?
Most people will have a slight discomfort, but the majority will tolerate it well. Some people even sleep through the treatment.
How long does it last?
While remnants of the pigment will remain permanently in the skin, it does fade down. To continue the full effect, touch-ups are recommended on average 3-5 years. It’s the same as a normal tattoo.
Does the treatment damage existing hair?
On average, a hair follicle will have a root 5 mm beneath the surface of the skin. SMP pigment is implanted approximately 1 mm below the surface and does not come in contact with the vital parts of a follicle.
How is SMP different from a hair tattoo?
SMP is often referred to as a hair tattoo, but uses specific pigments and needles along with specialized application. This differs from regular tattooing, as pigment is implanted more superficially using a technique unique to SMP. With this service, specialized training is required.
What does the process involve?
You will meet with us to receive an individual treatment plan at no cost—customized to your hair loss concerns. The treatment typically takes 2-4 hours, depending on the area. Each session is typically slightly shorter than the previous. Sessions are spaced 10-14 days apart to allow healing.
How much does it cost?
It varies from client to client, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Prices will be determined during the consultation.
